Initial Ideas for my Own Magazine
For my own magazine I am choosing to create a magazine that in some ways is similar to the likes of NME, as NME is a serious music journalism magazine and I would want my magazine to be more about the serious music aspect rather than the gossip. I feel that my magazine should not only feature music, but branch out to other elements such as arts and fashion, to keep its reader in the "know how". It should also include as much old music as "new" music, as to some people, some old music may be brand new to them, therefore it will always be widening its readers music knowledge. I would like to make my magazine to be a stepping stone for artists, not only music artists though. I would like to include a lot of reviews in my magazine. Interviews and perhaps introductions to an artist every week. I would like it to be a multi-genre magazine so its readers are not too limited. I wouldn't like to keep to one colour scheme with this magazine, I feel if the colours are slightly changed each week the magazine stays fresh and new, but keeping to the same fonts and layout so it is still recognisable and able to create a brand name. I wouldn't like my magazine to only rely on pictures to make it interesting so I would have to use lots of pull out quotes and inviting titles. I think I would limited myself to 2 or 3 pictures on the cover, so I would have to use a very very very interesting picture on my main cover to draw readers in. I would like my contents page to stay away from the norm of a list and perhaps use a similar layout to that in my preliminary task. On the contents page I would like to use more pictures to make the layout interesting and easy to follow, also this makes each article much more appealing. For my feature article, I would either write a review or interview. This I have not yet decided, as I am not entirely sure which one would be most beneficial. I would like my target audience to be both genders from the ages of 18-25, I think this opens up a large market for my magazine, although to cater for both genders could prove to be slightly difficult. I think 18-25 will probably include quite a few students, I feel students will probably most enjoy this magazine as this is a crucial time for arts, fashion and music in their lives, or so they will feel. I also feel the above full-time education age generation could also benefit from this magazine, as a lot of people are always open to hearing something new or catching up on something old.
