Analysis of Cover (NME) #1

To begin deciding what the target audience of my magazine would be, I analysed two front covers from two different magazines. The first, NME. NME states its price as £2.30 for a weekly magazine, this shows that NME assumes that its dedicated readers will be able to afford this weekly cost. On the enitre cover, specific names are used without explanation, again NME are assuming that their readers know all about these certain artists. The posters section on the cover features artists from the 70's this could show that NME are trying to keep in touch with their old readers and keep them interested or trying to appeal to the younger audiences flexibility in music taste. The man featured on the front (lead singer of My Chemical Romance) is just reffered to as 'Gerard', not using his last name, for a third time NME are assuming that the audience are already familar with this man. Lastly, the word 'goth' is used. This would target a specific audience as not everyone uses or is familar with this word. NME seems to be very specific and expect its readers to know a great deal about the certain genre of music they publish before purchasing. Therefore NME seems to me, to be, a very serious music journalism magazine.
