The distribution/distributor of my magazine would be highly important. As this would be the key to my magazine reaching my target audience. The way to achieve this is through advertisement and the magazine being published to the correct sellers, such as WHSmith and HMV which 'Bauer' has direct links with. I feel that 'Bauer' would be the publishing company I feel right to distribute my magazine. As a leading publisher my magazine would gain the correct amount of popularity and sell well. I feel on a niche publisher my magazine would not sell as well as it is slightly mainstream. I also feel that as IPC publish NME this would not work, as my magazine would be a main rival of NME so it seems fitting that my magazine be published with the leading rival of IPC. Bauer has a portfolio of 282 magazines in 15 countries with 6,600 employees worldwide and an annual turnover of 1.79 billion Euro. So in my eyes it would be perfect for my magazine.I feel Bauer is the right publisher to use, although it already carries a music magazine, Kerrang!. I feel this is still the right option as my target audience differs highly from Kerrang, it's market being 14-17 year old's with pop rock interests. My market is older teens with a rock/indie interest. So this immediately diminishes any direct competition with Kerrang!. This also provides Bauer with two separate music magazines, making them more inclined to take mine on. Because Bauer also publishes Kerrang! it has experience in publishing and advertising a music magazine, and this experience is essential to sales.
Institutionally my magazine is similar to NME, despite it being published by IPC. This means that I may already have an audience out there who want to try something new other than NME, and if there is a new magazine which follows a similar pattern to NME but differs in some ways they may be more inclined to buy it. My magazine could be advertised in other Bauer magazines to branch out my audience and increase its exposure to teens.
My magazine has a specific audience, however it cannot be marketed as niche because it is too similar to magazines like NME which cover this type of audience too.
